Going to the zoo in the summer is a great activity, but it’s hot by the time you’ve seen all the animals! Cooling off at the splash pad helps, and there are two large areas where kids of all ages can run through water that sprays up from the ground. There is also a large sitting area in the shade so parents can cool off as well, then everyone can enjoy a picnic (outside food and drinks are allowed) or grab a bite at the zoo restaurant that’s located next door.
Chelsea Splash Pad at Melrose Park

The Melrose Park splash pad in Chelsea is one of the newest options when it comes to splash pads around Birmingham. Everyone receives an armband for the day, and you can leave and come back later with your band. Food is allowed in designated areas only outside of the splash pad area. For babies and toddlers who are not potty trained, swim diapers are required.
Gardendale Splash Pad

Located at Celebration Park, you will find a playground, splash pad, and pavilions at this splash pad around Birmingham. There is tons of room for running around in the water and dodging sprayers of all kinds. There are also features specifically for babies and toddlers, like a large piano face that squirts up water as you run across.
Hoover Explore Splash Pad and Park

Located at the Hoover Met Complex, the 15,000-square-foot Explore playground and 7,000-square-foot splash pad are designed to flow together and meet the needs of all children, including those with disabilities and mobility issues. It’s open to residents and non-Hoover residents free of charge. Outside food, drink, and chairs are allowed, but they have to be outside of the splash pad area. With many colorful sprayers, tunnels, and other play structures, there are great activities to keep babies, toddlers, and bigger kids entertained for hours, especially when they venture over the adjoined playground.
McNeil Park Splash Pad

Located in Bessemer’s Pipe Shop community, McNeil Park sits on the site of the former McNeil School. It is the only park in Bessemer that has an outdoor water feature/splash pad area, and it includes a variety of ground sprayers and sprayers from above, as well as a colorful water tunnel to run through. The park is also home to a walking track, two pavilions, a basketball court, a children’s playground, and picnic tables.

The Leeds Splash Pad is open to residents of Leeds and their guests at no charge. Look for many groundwater sprayers and fun features like huge flowers, birds that spray from above, and a friendly green frog that sprays at toddler level. Watch their Facebook for updates about special events and regular closings for cleaning and maintenance (often on Mondays).

The large aquatic play area at Moody’s splash pad has activities that are fun and appropriate for kids of all ages, including babies and toddlers. Admission into the splash pad is $2 per person, whether you “play” or just observe, and the splash pad is open for everyone, not just residents of Moody. Outside food and drink are not allowed, but there is a concession area where you can purchase a snack.

When visiting the Pell City Splash Pad, located at Lakeside Park, everyone will receive an armband to wear. For little ones, swim diapers are required, and only those 5 years old and up will be able to play on the large splash pad structures, like the slides. But there are plenty of sprayers and other activities for toddlers to enjoy with colorful trees, boats, cacti, and more to explore.
Sicard Hollow Splash Pad and Park

This Sicard Hollow athletic complex features nature trails, two playgrounds, and a splash pad. Water sprayers are controlled by a button on a black stand, and once activated, the sprayers will run for about 15 minutes. To continue playing, you just press the button again to turn everything back on.
