Program: The Fall Concert will be a beautiful expression of celebrating children and reading in response to the mission and vision of STAIR Birmingham. Lyrics and nursery rhymes set by John Rutter in his Five Childhood Lyrics include Monday’s Child, Sing a Song of Sixpence, and Windy Nights. The epic Lewis Carol in the classic setting by Sam Pottle, Jabberwocky, will be performed along with Eric Whitacre’s Animal Crackers with text by Ogden Nash. Other music includes I Am His Child by Moses Hogan, The Sleeping Child by Bob Chilcott, and What a Wonderful World arranged by former University of Mississippi professor, Ray Liebau. One of the highlights of the concert will the alumni of the STAIR program reading poems in between choral music selections. Finally, the poet laureate for the state of Alabama, Ashley M. Jones will be the keynote speaker and will highlight the power of reading in her own life.

The Cahaba Chamber Chorale is an organization that endeavors to connect, celebrate, and unify our community as we sing together and highlight the experiences that all people share. Formed to fulfill a mission, it is our goal to elevate Alabama’s rich tradition of choral music and the choral art for a higher purpose, showcasing the diverse breadth of talent in our region. Fostering the human spirit through education, advocacy, and performance of choral music, the Cahaba Chamber Chorale is excited to begin connecting with you through the power of the choral art.

STAIR Birmingham is dedicated to elevating young readers and helping them achieve academic excellence through reading. The program utilizes volunteers to partner with young students. The volunteers take an active role in helping with reading progress.

This project has been made possible in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
