Learn to Swing Dance with Steel City Swing at Levite JCC of Birmingham

Grab your friends and get ready for another month of dancing with Steel City Swing!
We’ll be hitting the dance floor every WEDNESDAY this month at the Levite Jewish Community Center.

We’re mixing things up with our Quick Stop class again this month with a progressive beginner Balboa series. This series will be open to everyone to join because Balboa is for everybody! We’ll spend the next four weeks learning the outs and ins of Balboa and how we can incorporate it into our lindy hop.
What is Balboa?
Balboa is a super fun and cozy close embrace dance with smaller steps that originated on the crowded dance floors of Southern California during the 1920s. Eventually this close embrace dance evolved to make room for some fun open position moves, better known today as Bal Swing. While this dance is typically danced to faster songs, Balboa can be danced to a variety of different tempos.

We’ll start off with our lessons and then end with some social dancing. No partner required for either lesson (we rotate partners during lessons to help you learn and make friends)! No experience is required for either lesson but it is highly recommended to try and make it out to all 4 weeks of the series to get the full experience.
