Homegrown Habitat – Birmingham Area Native Plant Group

Homegrown Habitat (Birmingham Area Native Plant Club) is a group to raise awareness, tips, and support for growing native plants in the area. Our group (while not affiliated with the site) is using the ideas and resources based on Doug Tallamy’s books and information on his site at

We are encouraging people to sign up to this site to log your progress in planting native plants in your own yard and community! Their mission is to plant 20 million acres with native plants in the US by 2030, which would represent half of the privately owned land in our country. The map lights up your area as people join. Alabama already has people signed up, and our group is working to make the Birmingham area really light up! Please share what you or any groups you are part of are doing in the Birmingham Area to increase Native Plants. We are helping Highland Park’s Goldenrod Group with planting 2024 native plants in the Highland Park neighborhood and want to help other areas too!
