Market at Pepper Place will welcome the Great Southern
Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, for its first-ever Antique Car Show in downtown
Birmingham. The show will take place from 8am-Noon, during the popular Saturday farmers market, in the
Martin Biscuit parking lot, on 3rd Ave South and 29th Street, near Jeni’s Ice Creams and Hot & Hot Fish Club.
Visitors will find a variety of cars, trucks and motorcycles from the 1950s through 1990s, including a Crossley, a
Cushman motorscooter, and possibly a Triumph and/or an older Cadillac. A vehicle is considered “antique”
when it’s over 25 years old.
National Director of the Antique Automobile Club of America and Hoover resident, Vicki Bolton, is a lifelong
antique car enthusiast and one of the show’s organizers. “We’re excited to be showcasing some beautiful cars
at the show at Pepper Place this weekend. It’s an open invitation event, meaning any car owners can bring
their antique cars to show. They don’t have to be members of our organization. Antique cars can be restored,
preserved or in their original state; there are different criteria for the different classifications. The cars folks at
this show will be mostly US made, though we always get a few British cars, and lately we’re seeing some
Japanese models too,
” said Bolton.
“The mission of our organization is to share the history of antique
automobiles and educate people about their preservation.” She added,
“A show like this a great reminder of
the incredible design, workmanship and quality of cars made just a few decades ago. It’s a great event for
people of all ages.” There is no cost to attend. In the event of rain, the show will be rescheduled, at the same
time, same location, on November 16th. The Great Southern Region of the Antique Automobile Club of
America serves central Alabama and is one of 4 chapters in the state. The Antique Automobile Club of America
hosts cars shows all over the US, and has over 40,000 members.
