How It All Began
Twenty years ago,Cecilia Pearson, single with no children, founded Lifestages Media Inc. to help people navigate the major stages of life. She chose to focus on the first and most transformative stage—becoming a parent. That decision led to the launch of Birmingham Baby magazine in 2005.
The debut issue featured the adorable baby of the magazine’s talented art director, Amy, on the cover. That baby, Major, is now a college sophomore—proof of how far we’ve come! From that first issue, our goal has always been simple: to be a trusted, practical resource for families in Birmingham.
Expanding Our Reach
A year after the magazine’s launch, we introduced the Babypalooza Baby Expo, hosting in-person baby expos where parents could meet the local resources we featured in the magazine. The response was overwhelming! Families traveled from cities like Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and Huntsville to attend.
By 2008, we began hosting baby expos in other states, taking our Birmingham-born idea to parents in over 12 cities across five states. As Babypalooza grew, so did our magazine, evolving into Alabama Baby & Child and later Babypalooza Magazine, to better reflect our broader audience.
Coming Full Circle
Despite our national reach, we’ve never forgotten our Birmingham roots. That’s why we’ve reclaimed the name BirminghamBaby.com as a dedicated resource for families in and around the Magic City. This local platform makes it easier than ever to find what you need, whether it’s:
