The Magic City is hosting The World Games from July 7 -17, it’s a massive international multi-venue sporting event. If you’re like most Birmingham area parents, you’re probably wondering if you can take your kids to the Games without losing your mind. The answer is definitely yes with a little preparation.

Here are tips to make taking your kids to The World Games a success.

Pack Smart

Pack sunscreen, rain ponchos for those pop-up showers, and water.

You can bring a 20-ounce or smaller unopened plastic water bottle to any of the outdoor venues and refill them for free at locations near the concession stands. Bring a bottle for each member of the family to stay hydrated and save money.

Note: Infant food and formula will be permitted, as long as it is in a clear bag.

Pick Kid-friendly Venues and Sports

When taking your child to see the world games, it’s important to pick kid-friendly venues and sports to watch. Outdoor venues are a great option, as they provide plenty of space for your child to be a kid. And, letting your child help pick the sports they want to watch will ensure they stay interested in the games.

You can see events by venue, sport, or day on the Ticketmaster website

Here are a few of our venue and sport picks for kids

Hang Out at CityWalk BHAM

If you are looking for free family fun during the World Games check out CityWalk BHAM. This new attraction is the location of The World Games Plaza which will have free entertainment and live music, food trucks, vendors, and World Game sports demonstrations that your kids can try.

Use the Events for Education on Culture and Countries

You can create fun and interactive activities to help your children learn about the customs, traditions, and history of different countries competing in The World Games. The activities at The World Games Plaza offer a great way to introduce your children to new foods, music, and languages.

Here are some ideas from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama World Games Education Kit
